While cooking, the garbage disposal may seem like a handy way to quickly dispose of things in kitchen, but before you throw everything-but-the-kitchen-sink INTO the kitchen sink, read this:
There are a number of foods that you should simply trash, as they aren’t healthy for your disposal, your pipes or your environment. A lot of plant and animal foods naturally have high contents of nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen; they are good for human development, but not so good for the environment in excess quantity.
Pasta and rice are expandable foods and when they swell with water, it can clog the trap. Hard and fibrous foods can prevent proper operation of the blades, and greasy foods leave behind a filmy build-up when it cools and solidifies.
So don’t strain your drain, patrol what goes down your pipes!
